Evacuation
ProMove Transfer Kit
Safe, dignified transfers where a hoist can't be used.
The ProMove sling is a lightweight fabric transfer and evacuation sling that cocoons around a person to form a supportive, bucket-shaped seat, so a team can lift, slide, and move someone with reduced mobility from one seated position to another. It's the realistic alternative when there's no room for a hoist — and the transfer step that closes the gap between the evacuation chair and the aircraft seat, bed, or gurney.
It was designed by Dr. Huw Thomas — originally for his own manual-handling needs — and is manufactured in the UK by ProMove UK Ltd. Outpost is the authorized US distributor. Kits ship with training, and the Airport and Evacuation kits add eight extension handles and a dedicated bag for aisle and stairwell transfers.
The sling is placed behind the person's back with the V-shaped cut at the base of the spine, and each leg section is passed under the thighs until the color-coded handles meet. Both yellow handles join and secure with a padded Velcro closure, and both blue handles do the same — that's what turns the sling into a lifting seat. On the lead operator's count, two to four operators (more with extension handles) lift or slide the person in short, controlled stages, ideally with a slide sheet to minimize lifting.
